Viaggio in Umbria 2022

UMBRIA DAL CUORE

SEPTEMBER 7-17, 2022

An unforgettable journey and the ultimate Italian learning experience

For the 5th Total Immersion Trip percorsoItaliano took a group of students to a 10-day journey to Perugia and the region of Umbria “il cuore verde dell’Italia”, known for its verdant landscape, vibrant medieval hill towns, historic churches and rustic cuisine. The trip, il viaggio, was doubly special because it was hosted by both Roberta Tauriello Torgerson and Elisabetta Valentini, long-time friends, teachers and collaborators at percorsoItaliano.

Perché Perugia e l’Umbria?

Perugia is a special place for both Elisabetta and Roberta because of their long-standing involvement with the Seattle-Perugia Sister City Association.

Our adventure was for high beginner, intermediate and advanced students. All the group activities were conducted entirely in Italian. Together with a dedicated local guide, our small group of 12 to 14 explored Umbria’s history and culture, its villages and byways.

We believe this total immersion experience greatly enhanced our students’ appreciation of the region and their comfort in speaking Italian. Spending time with locals makes our Total Immersion Trips unique. We met people who live and work in this magical region, and we visited with celebrated artists committed to preserving traditional techniques and designs.

When we all returned home, we found we have left a little piece of our heart in “questo posto incantato che rinfresca anima e corpo.”

COSA DICONO I NOSTRI STUDENTI

Roberta and Elisabetta created and curated an incredible experience that I will always treasure. I loved being immersed in the language and culture. The trip provided us with the opportunity to dig deeper into Italian history and culture. It was a perfect mix of old and new. We learned about ancient, medieval and contemporary Umbria by spending each day with fantastic guides, artists and artisans. We were treated to a range of events and experiences that we could never have created on our own. I would highly recommend a trip with Percorso to anyone seeking to deepen their knowledge of Italy and command of the language. It was a magical trip.

There is no question that the experience of an immersion trip to Italy - organized and led by PercorsoItaliano - oozes with richly unique and inspiring encounters and discoveries. If you are lucky enough to secure spot on one of their trips, you have hit the jackpot.

Traveling with Percorso is like traveling with family- a family who wants to share all the rich experiences of their city/country with love and genuine hospitality from those who live there.

This was a trip that made it easy to fall in love with a special part of Italy. The people, the sights, sounds and food have a way of wrapping their arms around you like they care for you and hope to see you at the end of the day.

This trip was a marvelous experience! Everything was planned down to the finest detail, and executed perfectly. We were introduced to all the wonders most tourists see, but the beauty of percorsoItaliano is the extra, personal introduction that we received to the culture, the history, and the people. This is surely due to Roberta’s and Elisabetta’s love for and pride in their country, as well as the kindness of their friends and colleagues, who went out of their way to share their work and history with us. I believe a trip with Percorso cannot be matched!

About 3 days into the trip, something shifted for me relating to my spoken Italian. It seemed like a switch turned on and complete sentences started to fly out of my mouth. I thought to myself, “OK, this is what I was hoping for.” The switch that turns on “better comprehension” did not turn on very quickly or as fully. I loved that we all spoke Italian while on the mini-bus the majority of the time. I loved that we inspired Mirko to start studying English more seriously. I hope he is keeping it up! And Marta Cucchia al Laboratorio di Tessitura a mano Brozetti - what an incredible story, an incredibly energetic and passionate personality and commitment to a family tradition in an amazing journey “da convento a museo del tessuto” in the beautiful San Francesco delle Donne. The afternoon here was as inspiring as anything I have experienced in recent years.

I loved our day of fashion and the lovely evening we spent at the villa. I will never forget our fashion show, the incredible musical performances and, most of all, dancing together in the garden under the stars. It was a magical night!

I felt very privileged to be invited to Elisabetta’s father’s home. I loved sitting together with new and old friends, dining “al fresco”. I love the Italian art of living. I felt like I was able to experience that perfect blend of food, family, and friends in one, unforgettable night.

Apericena at Marialucia, tartufo experience, the day with Giuliano Giuman and at his studio, the Museum of textiles, the tango night and the Burri Museum. These represent a variety of interests and a variety of wonderful experiences. This is a testament to you having selected and designed a wonderfully diverse itinerary.

I loved visiting the villa and grounds, learning about the roses and being at a home with such rich history and learning the stories of that home. I also enjoyed the cooking class and the delicious meal. I really enjoyed being at the villa of Carlo Della Ciana also and enjoying the meal, the wonderful opera and the dancing.
