Description: Planning a trip to Italy? Get a head start on your Italian in this 5-week class geared towards travelers. This course is not only a basic introduction to Italian for beginners, but also a chance for students to practice speaking in different settings and situations that could occur while traveling in Italy. Students will learn tools that will help them feel more comfortable and more confident– from getting to know someone, to being able to move around a city where nobody speaks English, to ordering in a bar or restaurant, or asking information about almost any topic. Buon viaggio!

This class is for students who have little or no exposure to Italian. It is ideal for anyone who isn’t ready to commit to long-term Italian study but needs an introduction to the language before a trip to Italy.

Students will learn:

  • How to pronounce just about any word in Italian (Euro, bicchiere, biglietto, etc.)

  • How to greet people (ciao, buongiorno, arrivederci, etc.)

  • How to read a menu (antipasti, primi, secondi, dolci, etc.)

  • How to order in a bar and in a restaurant (un caffè, per favore/ una bottiglia di vino rosso, per favore, etc.)

  • How to ask for and understand directions (dov’è Piazza San Marco, per favore? / A sinistra, a destra o sempre dritto? etc.)

After completing this class, students can transition into a 10-week First Steps class.
